There is a long list of New Jersey Devils in Stanley Cup Finals games that have made an impact.
That said, there are a few guys who made their mark across the entirety of the finals.
Brian Gionta may not jump to the forefront of mind when it comes to New Jersey Devils players, but he was pivotal to the 2003 Stanley Cup win.
Martin Brodeur was fantastic, and the Ducks’ Jean-Sebastien Giguere wound up winning the Conn Smythe Trophy despite not winning the Cup.
But Gionta’s goal and five assists help propel the Devils over the upstart Ducks in seven games, their third championship since 1995.
Jason Arnott
With guys like Martin Brodeur and Scott Stevens leading the way, their tough, physical brand of hockey translated to when the stakes were their highest.
That’s how Jason Arnott finds his way onto this list, arguably the best Stanley Cup Finals performer in team history.
Arnott is similar to a lot of New Jersey Devils players that made an impact in that they came from elsewhere.
Arnott played six years there and had an epic series against the Dallas Stars.
He had four goals, three assists in the series but the goal in overtime of Game 6 propelled the team to its second title.
Patrik Elias
But Elias is the all-time leading scorer in franchise history for a reason.
When it comes to the playoffs, he didn’t let up when it mattered most, either.
During the 2003 Cup run, Elias was the man. Against the Ducks in the finals, he registered three goals, four assists over the seven-game series.
He collected the game winner in Game 2 as well, giving the Devils an important 2-0 series lead.
Other Key Contributors
There are some more underrated performances in the history of the Devils.
Neal Broten’s six points in the 1995 Finals, the first win for the Devils, was crucial.
That year, John MacLean had five points as the Devils swept the juggernaut Detroit Red Wings in four games.
Petr Sykora is perhaps the most underrated part of the 2000 Cup run.
He had four points in Game 1 against the Stars, finishing with five in the series.
Future Hall of Famer Niedermayer was stellar in 2003, becoming the first defenseman in Devils history to rack up five points in a Final.
